Legends of the Fall

Legends of the Fall

1994  |  Director: Edward Zwick  |

Shot on a set built in British Columbia, “Legends of the Fall” had numerous design and construction challenges, the 60-mph winds being one of them. In order to create the background for the film’s war sequences, the production design team had to dig trenches on the windy plains and line them with special barbed wire that would not cause tetanus if an actor was scratched.

Not only were the winds challenging, but Lilly also had to work with Bart the Bear and create a safe environment for the actors, crew and animal. By building a special wooden platform that the bear never stepped off of, Lilly was able to give the trainer room to work with Bart and the production team a safe distance from which to get their shots.
